9th juried exhibition of miniatures

Olgica Savic and Anica Jelenkovic from Sremska Mitrovica, Dragana Vukas from Indjija, David Djordjevic from Zajecar, Biljana Vasovic and Slavica Vasovic from Sombor – are the winners of the ninth juried exhibition called 100 women – 100 miniatures, that presented exhibits in miniature form 10x10cm made in old crafts.

The awarded authors stood out in the competition of 80 exhibits on display in the residence of Canadian Ambassador. The theme of this year's exhibition is Guardians of Tradition that included the works of 40 masters of old crafts from 17 municipalities across the region.

Ambassador of Canada to Serbia Giles Norman, diplomatic patron and host of the exhibition stated that all the exhibited works are exceptional and that he is fascinated by the cultural heritage of Serbia.

The Embassy will continue to support Ethno Network projects aimed at preserving the country’s cultural heritage. The exhibition I host is a good way to connect the past, present and future. I am pleased that among the awardees is a ten-year-old girl, whose grandmother was awarded last year. This implies that the know how is passed on to young people as a model of how tradition is preserved – Ambassador Norman said.

President of the Executive Board of UniCredit Bank Nikola Vuletic, who addressed the audience on behalf of all corporate partners, stated that socially responsible companies feel an urge to contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage.

We must put our heritage on display and also support women who protect it, which is the goal of the exhibition of miniatures. I am glad to be a partner of such an event, which promotes quality, tradition and female entrepreneurship – said Vuletic.

The juried exhibition is the only event of this kind in Serbia, which provides women who make traditional handicrafts with the opportunity for social and economic affirmation, said the President of the Ethno Network Violeta Jovanovic.

- Our country’s cultural heritage continues to live in handicrafts and this exhibition is also an opportunity for women to affirm themselves and receive public recognition for their work. It is equally valuable to have an award for young authors, to underline how important it is to preserve our heritage and pass it on to younger generations – Jovanovic said.

The ninth exhibition of miniatures is held under the auspices of the Embassy of Canada, in partnership with NALED and socially responsible companies - Telekom, Moravacem, Asseco and Unicredit Bank. This year's jury consisted of representatives of the Faculty of Applied Arts, the Ethnographic Museum, the diplomatic corps and NALED.
