Weaving colony in Pirot

The sixth weaving colony was held in the village of Dojkinci, on Stara Planina, from July 12 to 15, organized by the Ethno Network, the City of Pirot and NALED. Ten participants from Inđija, Bela Palanka, Novi Pazar, Čačak, Paraćin, Sremska Mitrovica and Belgrade, during the four days of the colony, wove Rašić's plate, a pattern that is usually used as a border for kilims. Among the participants, this year there were two students from the Faculty of Applied Arts, as well as a 15-year-old girl who sat down for a loom for the first time.

On the first day of the colony, Snežana Ašanin, an ethnologist from the National Museum in Čačak, gave an expert lecture on the use of woven objects in the household and customs, and the weavers used the opportunity to exchange knowledge about carpet weaving in different parts of Serbia.

As part of the diplomatic day, the colony was visited by representatives of the international community - the ambassadors of the Kingdom of Belgium, Canada and Portugal, who were welcomed by the mayor of Pirot, Vladan Vasić. In addition to visiting the colony, the ambassadors, officials and the media also visited the weaving school in Pirot, as well as the natural beauties of the Stara Planina.

Thanks to the mentoring support of the members of the craft cooperative "Damsko srce", the participants successfully displayed their works and deservedly received certificates for participation in the colony. The most successful participants were awarded special recognitions, for the best work in the category of color innovation, two awards, to FAA students, Angelina Krstić and Milica Đorđević. In the category of technical correctness, the recognition was taken by the only male weaver in the colony, Slobodan Mitrović from Bela Palanka. Asija Nikšić from Novi Pazar, the youngest participant on colony was also awarded. She deserved recognition fot the best work with her persistence and hard work.
