Certificate award ceremony at the Palace of Serbia

Ethno Network in cooperation with the graduate program “Mokrogorska skola” and the National Employment Service (NSZ) successfully conducted weaving, embroidery and knitting training for 106 unemployed women from 9 municipalities.

Minister of Labor, Employment, Veterans’ and Social Affairs Zoran Djordjevic officially presented certificates to trainees who successfully completed training for occupations that are considered to be in deficit in the Republic of Serbia. He emphasized that the implementation of measures of active employment policy, inclusion of unemployed persons in the labor market, investment in human capital and reduction of unemployment to below 10 percent are top priorities of the Government of Serbia in the coming period.

NSZ Director Zoran Martinovic pointed out that in 2018 the NSZ organized various types of training, but weaving and embroidery were imposed by their nature and content as the most specific, because this training provides a concrete result and outstanding products that represent our culture and tradition not only in Serbia, but throughout the world.

Ethno Network President Violeta Jovanovic congratulated the participants on successfully completed training and invited Minister Djordjevic and Director Martinovic to continue and intensify institutional support for unemployed women from rural areas through future training in the labor market, employment through public works and creation of other measures targeting rural women as long-term unemployed.

The Mayor of Prokuplje promised the trainees from their municipality that they would include their handicrafts in municipal protocol gifts and in the official tourist offer of the city and invited representatives of other municipalities to get involved in this kind of initiatives.

In addition to representatives of municipalities and cities, certificate winners and partners, the event was attended by Ambassadors of Slovakia and Canada, UNICEF officials and senior diplomats of the Embassies of Norway and China in Serbia.
