Weaving in Sombor

In November, weaving training is being conducted at the Cultural Center “Laza Kostic” in Sombor. The organizer is the Ethno Network with the support of the embassies of Canada, USA and Israel and in cooperation with the National Employment Service, the City of Sombor and craft associations "Staparska ruza" from Stapar, "Lenka" from Odzak and "Zlatne ruke Somborke" from Sombor.

It is intended primarily for unemployed women who want to professionally make handicrafts based on the cultural heritage of Serbia. 7 women are participating in the four-week training. At the Sombor Cultural Center, the participants mastered the basics of weaving, and the emphasis was on the kneeling technique, which is used to weave a carpet. They have mastered the motif of the Stapar rose, but also the geometric motifs that are characteristic of the Pirot carpet, with an emphasis on the kneeling technique used in carpet weaving.

Certificates are provided for all participants, and weaving loom for the best finishing work. Certificates will be awarded at the end of the year at the closing ceremony in the presence of the diplomatic corps.
