Exhibition of miniatures opened

Belgrade, December 29 – Juried exhibition of handicrafts named “100 women – 100 miniatures”, was officially opened today in the gallery of the National Bank of Serbia. This event is one of the activities within the project “Employment in rural areas”, funded by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, and implemented by Ethno Network. The exhibition was also supported by the National Agency for Regional Development and the City of Belgrade.

Snezana Jovanovic, project manager of Ethno Network, greeted guests and emphasized that this is the second exhibition of miniatures.

- The idea came from coordinator of Ethno network, Sofija Arsic, and this year exhibition is a part of project that aims at strengthening the associations of women – handicraft producers in the partners’ municipalities in Eastern Serbia, as well as strengthening the team that will coordinate the Ethno Network. Exhibition “100 women - 100 miniatures” is dedicated to women who are carriers of homecrafts since prehistory, and traditional techniques have survived in spite of modern way of production. Ethno Network has contributed to this through its projects and organized education for women in traditional techniques of old crafts.

During the opening ceremony, there were also awarded certificates for completed trainings for handicraft producers in five partners’ municipalities on this project – Zajecar, Kladovo, Veliko Gradiste, Golubac and Negotin. A total of 35 women successfully passed training in the techniques of weaving, fillet lace, felting wool, embroidery and gold-thread embroidery.

Prizes to the authors of the best miniatures will be awarded on January 18, 2012, at the ceremony in the Gallery of the National Bank of Serbia, and the best young author will be awarded, too.
