Second anniversary of Kladovo Crafts Association

Kladovo Association „Misija Kreativa“ includes about thirty weavers, ceramic producers, sculptors and painters, has for two years been dedicated to production of handicrafts and gained recognition in the local community. The second anniversary celebration was held at the gallery „Branka Stankovic“ that was leased for free to the Association, which cleaned the newly acquired space and organized a standing exhibition of handicrafts rooted in the tradition of Eastern Serbia. The dusty yet beutiful gallery has been abandoned for the past thirty years and is currently in poor repair, with decaying floor tiles and no water connection. Nevertheless, the Association is quite enthusiastic and visionary about the future of the gallery and is actively seeking assistance from the local government and donors for reconstruction, following the support that has already been provided by the local companies „Tekijanka“ and „Djerdap – turist“.

„The weavers workshop within „Misija kreativa“ in Kladovo has engaged five unemployed producers for a five-month project of public works with Ethno Network from Belgrade. Kladovo producers are now weaving links between antique handicrafts techniques and new generations that do not nurture and preserve these precious skills and motifs“, as Dusanka Botunjac, academic painter and Ethno Network’s designer for Eastern Serbia, stated at the opening.

Representative of the Local office for Diaspora in Kladovo, Ljubomir Gusatovic, kept the promise made two years ago, and donated a Singer sowing machine to the Association „Misija kreativa“. The machine as Mr. Gusatovic said, can do miracles, but only with the help of skilled hands of Association’s members.
