Reception at the Serbian Parliament

Parliamentary Committee for Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality and the Women\\\'s Parliamentary Network in collaboration with Ethno Network organized a reception for representatives of institutions, the diplomatic corps and business, on the occasion of the membership of the Republic of Serbia in the European Folk Art and Craft Federation. The reception was organized in the hall of the National Assembly and augmented with an exhibition entitled \\\'Traditional handicrafts as an element of State Protocol,\\\' set by Dusanka Botunjac, member of the Managing Board and the Arts Council of Ethno Network.

In addition to Mr. Omerovic as Chairman of the Committee for Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, the audience was addressed by Mrs. Biljana Hasanovic-Korac, a member of parliament and representatives of the Women\\\'s Parliamentary Network, as well as by H.E. Pekka Orpana, Ambassador of Finland to Serbia, and Sofija Arsic and Violeta Jovanovic as representatives of Ethno Network.

Parliamentary Committee for Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality and Women\\\'s Parliamentary Network provided institutional support in the organization of the exhibition and reception by Ethno Network as it mostly consists of artisans who through their work preserve traditional values, become economically independent and get acknowledgement within their families and communities. In his address, Finnish Ambassador stressed the importance of Serbia\\\'s membership in the Federation in the context of European integration of Serbia, that implies the protection of intangible cultural heritage, preservation of social values ​​and national identity, placing emphasis on the economic empowerment of women as a basic prerequisite for their independence and greater participation in the leading positions in the institutions and business community.
