First exhibition of miniatures

On October 27, 2010, Ethno Network organized the first juried exhibition of traditional handicrafts entitled 100 women - 100 miniatures.

The exhibition will be open from October 27 to November 2, 2010 in the City Library in Belgrade and is institutionally supported by the City of Belgrade - Secretariat for economy and National agency for regional development. It is planned to present the exhibition in select towns throughout Serbia.

Ethno Network members from all over Serbia prepared refined exhibits - miniatures (framed motifs) in traditional handicraft techniques. The goal of the exhibition is to revitalize Serbia\\\'s cultural heritage and modernize production of traditional handicrafts. Also, the exhibition motivates women in rural areas to maintain and increase their engagement with handicrafts as a source of income and employment creation.

Arts council within Ethno Network (composed of Sofija Arsic, Radmila Jovanovic, Danica Djokic) completed the selection of exhibits that were juried by select experts and professionals in the handicrafts sector (Zenska Vlada - Svetlana Kisic, National Employment Service - Snezana Markovic, Struktura Croatia - Andrea Vugrinovic) who awarded prizes for the best exhibits in the traditional techniques including weaving, embroidery, lace-making, felting and filet lace.

Special awards will be delivered to 4 young authors, while select exhibits were additionally awarded by diplomatic (Press - Vera Vukovic, Biznis - Radojka Nikolic, Tanjug - Valentina Nesic) and media jurors (USAID Belgrade - Marilynn Schmidt, Iris Consulate Belgrade - Ann Pesich, Canadian Embassy Belgrade - Djurdja Ceramilac).

Ceremonial award will be held on November 2, 2010, in the City assembly.

At the opening, the attendees were addressed by select speakers including Mrs. Stanija Visekruna, the deputy secretary for economy in the City of Belgrade.

Mrs. Visekruna pointed out that through Ethno Network projects, women in rura
