Gold-thread embroidery in Nis

A great national competition “May our handwork turn into gold” that is organized by the local coffee brand “Golden C coffee”, was launched in Nis in a workshop for media representatives. The workshop was attended by Ethno Network educators versed in gold-thread embroidery that will also go to next promotions to be held in Novi Sad and Belgrade.

The contest will last until the end of this year and aims to pay tribute to the creativity and commitment of all women throughout Serbia that are making handicrafts. The competition will take place in four stages to reward the best works in the categories of painting Easter eggs, then traditional handicrafts (embroidery, knitting, needlepoint ...), the recipe for a traditional meal and decoration of a festive table.

The jury, which will consist of well-known individuals from the public life of our country, will meet at the end of each stage to choose the best work to win the prize worth 100,000 dinars, while ten most creative participants of the competition will be awarded a special “Golden C coffee” set and a gift voucher of 5,000 dinars.

Ethno Network is engaged to support the theme of the competition by demonstrating gold-thread embroidery as a demanding traditional technique that requires a highly developed skill and commitment to the preservation of traditional values. Members of Ethno Network that were at the workshop, presented the media representatives with the importance of handicrafts that occupy a special place in our tradition. The engagement of Ethno Network is expected encourage women across the country to demonstrate their skills and join the competition.
