Presentation to the International Women’s Club

Belgrade, March 14 – Presentation of traditional Serbian towel and demonstration of old handicraft techniques – felting wool and embroidery, took place today in the lobby of RK Belgrade (Beogradjanka), at the selling/exhibition place of Ethno Network. Guests of Ethno Network were members of the International Women’s Club. They’ve heard an interesting story about the Serbian tradition, the role of towel through the history and its importance, now and then, within various customs and ceremonies – birth of a child, wedding, house building, funeral.

President of the Board of Ethno Network, Violeta Jovanovic, welcomed guests and informed them about the activities of association. She emphasised the importance of preserving tradition and invited members of the International Women’s Club to test their skills in felting wool and embroidery. Some of them were very successful.

The guests were particularly interested in the origins and development of decorative motifs of the handicrafts, as well as in time required to produce certain products. Traditional Serbian towel has attracted the most attention, but also some products of felted wool, woven products, and female shirt.

Members of the International Women’s Club expressed their interest in training courses in the old techniques of making handicrafts, that Ethno Network is about to start soon in the new premises in 10, Brankova street.
