Exhibition in Odzaci

Handicrafts association \'Lenka\' organized an exhibition in the Gallery of sports and business center in Odzaci on April 7-8. The exhibition featured some fifty items made from natural materials by traditional techniques felting, weaving and embroidery. Well-designed and with authentic motifs that meet the requirements of good and quality products, the exhibits attracted the attention of many visitors.

Exhibited handicrafts were developed within the project \'Empowerment of women and youth for self-employment in the scope of rural development of Serbia\', initiated by the Ethno network with the support of the Fund for an Open Society. Group of six women from the Association \'Lenka\' recently completed a course of felting - hand pressed wool. Final products prepared following the training, along with additional items from the previous training which were presented at the exhibition, will enrich the local tourist offer of authentic handicrafts, create additional source of income for women and encourage their self-employment.

By opening the exhibition, president of the municipal council in Odzaci, Milos Pejcic, pointed out that the local self-government established good cooperation with \'Lenka\' association. On this occasion he pledged that in the near future, the municipality of Odzaci will endeavor to provide more adequate and larger working premises for the association, with respect to the plan of increasing production capacity through public works project for women and disabled, planning to engage twelve additional women from the municipality of Odzaci.

Fund for an Open Society and Ethno network through this project that engages five municipalities and includes the total of 28 participants from the municipality of Odzaci, are trying to revive the old and near forgotten techniques and revitalize handicraft production by making traditional and marketable items.
