2nd Weavers’ Colony in Stara Planina

The second weavers’ colony on Stara Planina started on Saturday, June 24th, to last from 24 to 27 June. In the inspiring ambience of the former border post in Dojkinci, 15 weavers gathered together from different parts of Serbia to weave motifs of Pirot rugs, with the support of top weavers from the crafts cooperative “Damsko srce” from Pirot. Professional lectures on the design of handicrafts, their placement and the history of Pirot will be held by the curator of the museum in Pirot and by the professor Zlatko Cvetkovic from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade.

According to the previous practice, the colony will be visited by diplomats and officials who support this activity and the initiative to encourage the employment of women, who are engaged in old crafts and the production of traditional handicrafts. On the final day, the jury will select and reward the best piece that has been made during the colony.

The weavers’ colony is organized by Ethno Network, NALED and the crafts Cooperative “Damsko srce” from Pirot, with the support of the cities of Pirot and Sombor, as well as the embassies of Australia and the USA.
