Awards for ethno design

Ethno Network awarded young designers for the best contemporary design with authentic ethnic motifs, which will enrich the offer of traditional handicrafts made by old techniques. The works of young designers were selected in the competition \'Design embroidered traditions\' organized with the support of the US Embassy, NALED and Ethnographic Museum.

Awards were delivered to:

Nevena Savojev for design of the embroidered pillowcase,
Ivana Kustudic for design of an embroidered and hand-woven belt,
Sanja Rakovic for the design of Pirot kilim in the technique of hand weaving,
and Milica Todoric for design of phone cases in the technique of embroidery on a felted piece.

Designed objects were handmade by artisans of Ethno Network coming from the cooperatives and associations from Pancevo, Odzaci and Negotin.

- Ethno Network wants to involve young and innovative designers in the preservation of tradition and connect them with women who produce handicrafts in order to get a well-designed products and enhance our tourism offer. We believe that these awards mean an important recognition to designers and serve as an encouragement to them to continue with the design in this area - said the expert coordinator of Ethno Network, Sofija Arsic, at the awards ceremony in Belgrade Ethnographic Museum.

Drew Giblin, cultural attache of the US Embassy, said that an important objective of the competition was encouraging women\'s entrepreneurship and leadership. - We believe in the preservation of the cultural heritage of Serbia and it is a story that should be shared with the world. It is also an opportunity to create new business opportunities. We made a great combination of talent of young designers with manufacturers of handicrafts from all over Serbia - said Giblin.
