Top design ideas chosen

As part of a project supported by the US Embassy and implemented by Ethno Network in partnership with NALED and Etnographic museum, a competition was organized for the design with ethnic motifs, with the aim of promoting local traditions among youth aiming to put modern design in the function of preserving traditional motifs and cultural heritage of Serbia.

Upon completion of the training, Ethno Netrowk organized a competition that resulted in a dozen conceptual designs by young designers who have created a prototype solutions in cooperation with a selected group of craft producers within Ethno Network. The competition included a call for design ideas in the categories: clothing, accessory, decorative objects, souvenirs and packaging, and in the following traditional techniques: embroidery and, thread-weaving, lace (filet-ace and crocheting) and felted wool (wet process).

The jury composed of experts from the Faculty of Applied Arts (Zlatko Cvetkovic and Leonora Vekic) and professional experts within Ethno Network (Sofija Arsic) conducted a judging of the submitted solutions and selected the best works that will be awarded and presented in an exhibition in February at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade.
