Museum in Veliko Gradiste

In collaboration with the local government in Veliko Gradiste, Crafts cooperative Jefimija and the National museum in Pozarevac organized a well-attended opening of its branch in Veliko Gradiste. The museum is located in a renovated building in the downtown area, and it includes artefacts and modern exhibits presenting the history of the region from ancient to modern times. Initiators and authors of the exhibition are the director of the National museum in Pozarevac, the historian Milorad Djordjevic and his colleague, Danica Djokic, custos, advisor and ethnologist, with the support of Snezana Jovanovic, the skilled and enthusiastic manager of Jefimija cooperative. The event was attended by the mayor of Veliko Gradiste, Zivoslav Lazic, who stated in his opening speech, that the museum in Veliko Gradiste lays the foundation for further development of artistic initiatives and marks the first step towards preservation of the town’s long cultural heritage. Crafts cooperative Jefimija from Veliko Gradiste enriched the display adding the hand-crafted exhibits and ethno items to the exhibition. Skillful and creative women from Veliko Gradiste weave magic on their looms and clay in pottery, inspired by tradition from the National museum in Pozarevac, thus building the bridge between traditional and modern and following the Ethno Network model that strongly encourages cooperation with local and national museums. Thanks to the enthusiams of above individuals to make this initiative a success, students from Veliko Gradiste will be offered to visit the exhibition free of charge, while the local population will enjoy season’s discounts on handcrafted items.
